Stormy Weather

SOL's Dad does not care about inclement weather...NO!
Common weather trends…if you go back ten years, previous to the drought years. SOL’s 2nd year guiding, snow over the Labor Day Weekend.
Not this year. Knock on Wood my friends.
Headhunters hosting our 3rd Annual Labor Day Weekend BBQ. This year, unfortunately, no Bikini Boat Wash. I know, shitty. Took the life right out of ya. Me too.
We will whip up some BBQ items, dogs, sausages, sauerkraut, beans, some sort of mystery meats as well. How about Sunday afternoon post lunch? Sounds good to me, Wiffle Ball too. A little casting, and maybe even an ad-hoc contest. I’m a gamer. You?

Mouth watering smells, sights, sounds...tasty too

Hump Day

No rail cars...
No more rail cars clogging up grip and grin shots. Just blue skies and smiles. Cheezy huh.
Cloud cover today for the first time in a millennium. The fish appreciated the scalding sun, as we did too. Threatening T-storms as I write, but nothing a good Simms rain jacket and a couple Budweiser’s cannot quell. Tomorrow: Partly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs 70 to 80. West winds 5 to 15 mph. Says the weather guessers. I predict great fishing with lots of fish over 20″. I’m not right every day either. But some days…

Fly Fish Chick is in town for a spell. She has completed the canoe race, and was not looking forward to rowing the boat for her mother and daughter. She did say she could cast a fly rod if needed. Check out her BLOG for her post race coverage…

They are just so big…

Yes, a brown trout, again
Caught on a Harrop’s Rusty Paraspinner. Paul T loves this fly. He loves to break rods whilst fishing this great caddis pattern.
Check out Paul T on our teaser video by Scumliner on our Home Page. He is the guy breaking his Scott G2 while fighting a fish last year, one year ago today.
Will we have success fishing the evening bite like we did last year? I suspect we will Paul. They are, and unless they axe me this year, my longest term clients. Again, how can they handle it?

2nd Trestle on the upper river
As you can see above, we can wade fish now! For those in the know, you are already here and angling. The water will continue to come down in the week ahead. Will you be making your dry fly dreams come true…with us at Headhunters. Is it perfect yet? No. Is it damn close? Yes.
Stay tuned to the USGS site and arrive when you are comfortable with the flow. Most wade fishers like 6000 cfs or less. You be the judge, more like 5000 cfs. I agree with the latter, but what do I know, I’m just an oar whore.
Our fish are so nice and big. We love it. Wasn’t that big water for the last 3 years worth it? Damn Straight. Ask me this question again in 2 years when the fish are…?
Ooohh Boy!

Ohhh, boy
Deserves another look today at 82 year old Bill. He throws a dry better than most of the young whippersnappers on the river. Truly!
Just look at the size of this monster…Bill got this beauty on the 3rd cast. Dyno-mite.
The water is on the way down. It is going the right direction, at least for a while. Are we excityed. Yes.
You folks must have done your jigs, dances, or what ever you do to get the attention of the fish gods, the water gods, or the fella who controls the knobs at the dam.
Thank you for the water Mother Nature…now stay away for a while.

Another good one!
