I’m on Holiday Yo!

I rock Headhunters

Come out this weekend. Fun times. Fishing is good. Drinking is better, with some BBQ, and cheap flies.

Customer Appreciation Weekend at Headhunters Fly Shop & Guide Service...tomorrow BBQ and Half Price Fly Sale…and music @ Izaak’s…if you dig that kind of thing.

As always free coffee, BS, information, customer service, and some education for good measure.

Headhunters loves you my friends…have a kick-ass weekend. Be safe.

Smart Cow

Moo cow

Finding shade on the Mo is tough…but is this cow smarter than most? Yes. Most of us? Probably. We’re trout fisherman…

Some hopper angling…with some success. Weeds down low have started, not an issue though.

Fish rising most of the time, although it can get tough in the late afternoons. Groups here now and all are happy.

Short leash nymphing, headhunting, and terrestrial afternoons…what could be better. Free block of cheese with every guided trip.

Want a 3hr cruise? Try our BTHS for a casting primer, a nymphing lesson, or a simple drift down the Mighty Mo.

HH open daily 7am til the wee hours of the night, or 9pm, whichever comes first.

I'm Free!

Just another day…

Looking NW towards Craig 8/1 across Sterling Ranch

This morning before my guide trip. Shouldn’t stop to take photos, as my clients have to wait a minute longer to fish…

…but as of yet, nobody has left.

It’s only half over, the season…and I know it is a mediocre shot.

But I’m the writer, and the photographer, so it’s my prerogative.

Nice bow on the Mo

Nice Warren!

My GF’s dad Warren with a nice Bow. It is Warren’s second trip to the Mo. Danielle has not dumped me yet…and I am so thankful. Looks like Warren and Andrea will be back next year. Yes, indeed.

Come out and see us. Walk-in trips are being booked daily…but if you want a specific guide, book today.

As Chip Hammersmith once said…”Book early for the good guides.”

Sweet Joe

Joe, nice!

Not bad for hump day fishing. What will today bring? Mosquitoes? Yes.

Big fish? Yes. Fun? Yes.

Duck, no rods up.

Fished well yesterday and should continue into the unforeseeable future…says the fish see-ers. I’m a fish see-er after  a dozen Budweiser’s too.

Come visit the Missouri this year. You will enjoy. Have seen some wade fishers on the river. It is nearly wade fishable. Be careful, still pretty deep.

Mosquitoes and Thistle

No mosquitos on the Missouri

Bring the dope...

Anchored up tossing dry fly’s at sipping trout is nice. Add mosquitoes and add a little bit of hell.

Bring the bug dope and use it liberally.

The color purple

Just like mosquitoes, the Wavyleaf Thistle Cirsium undulatum is an unwelcome visitor. I like the look of the thistle better than the bite of mosquito.

The river is dropping my friends and the great fishing year of 2010 continues…

…are you coming?

Late June on the Mo

Fly Reels for fishing in Montana

Hogan's Wing Man

Fly that caught the fish on the previous post. It rules. Size 12’s are SOL’s style. Bigger can be better.

Small tiny dries are for those who like to cast a lot. Big, bushy, obnoxious shit like that above are for those who like to make a great first pass.

Just a minor rant this morning…and I’m not even pissed. I’m happy. I love small tiny flies…we sell lots of them…all the techy shit.

Saying the “S” word a lot too. Scumliner loves it when I swear. He’s the only one who dropped the “F” bomb on the BLOG, not me. Let’s make that clear. I was in conjunction with the BP debacle.

Flies on the River of Missouri

Shucks

Under Cooper Bridge yesterday. Stopped for lunch and spyed these fella’s.We even have a few larger bugs, as you can see. The little guys are the Sally’s. Not a Stonefly river, but we have at least some.

Love these fella's

At Mountain Palace around noon yesterday. Come on out and visit. I would if I were you.
