Saturday Autumn Primer

Still...
Autumn has arrived. We welcome it. Although, the summer has not been oppressive. Nor hot.
Quite a few folks around for the latter part of August. When September arrives, so will the people, more that is.

Tom from Texas tellin'....
Tom, Dale, and Dale fished with Squeeky yesterday. They need a break today.
Dale said to me, “Boy, you sure do know a lot about this river, and…you sure talk a lot. I think you were probably quieter when you smoked a carton of Camels daily.”
The river is quiet, fishing wise. Not so hot. Good in the upper locales, a decent from there down. Guys are fishing everywhere, with varying results.
Better in September. We’ll see you then. Book now for lodging, and certainly for guide choice.
More Tuesday Images…and HH Props
What else is there. Do you know anyone who fits this bill?
Had to leave in a hurry this am. The clients wanted to go fishing. Go figure.
Spin poles and Parrothead signs adorn the back of the shop…a BBQ, old tires, broken pieces of fly rods, shitty nets, etc.
The Simms stuff is cool too..
Looks yummy, and it is. Thanks Bob Duport from Western Mountains Fly Fishing in Kingfield Maine for dropping this half box of beer by the shop.
Recent comment from Jon De Jong of Washington State…both Scumliner and Squeeky Oar Lock cut their teeth in ‘ol Warshington…and grew up in the Seattle area.

John,
I fished the Missouri for the first time in the middle of July w/ my dad and brothers. We had a great time and fell in love with the river and area in general. Daily stops at Headhunters for flies and local knowledge played a large part in the success and enjoyment of out trip. You and your shop folks have created a helpful, laid-back atmosphere, which is enhanced by the ever present background music. Thought at least some of these tracks fit the Headhunters vibe, especially the track, “Piece of Work”. Enjoy and thanks.

Thanks Jon, and we look forward to your return. We will continue to update the IPod for new fishy tracks! signed, The Headhunters Staff
Chucky says…

Heyyy!
The fishing is good, the fellowship is great, the Missouri beckons your attention. Come out and enjoy the best Montana has to offer!
Still rockin’ at Headhunters into August. The water temps have not climbed into orbit and remain cool. The fishing is damn good…off the charts no, but very good. There are some fish that are uncatchable, and if you like that kind of challenges, we have your fishing. I like the fish that will eat the fly, and there are some of those around too. Lots of fish rising all day long, junk eaters unite. Not many high profile wing jobby’s drifting in the feeding lanes…just lots of dead and decomposing pieces of flies. Wings, abdomens, legs…I like legs.

David stalking the wiley trout...
David, above, says…”Get your ass out here and fish the world’s best trout stream, this year. You like to learn? This is the place. You think you are reeaally good? Well. the fish make the ultimate decision. Always.”
Friday BBQ @ Headhunters

Yummy...food
Friday at Headhunters Fly Shop…BBQ sausages, dogs, and whatever else tastes good burnt on our charcoal Weber. We think about 5 ish we will get the coals red and open a cold Budweiser to start the weekend off right. Montana loves this way of life.
Come spend the late afternoon into evening with your favorite friends on the Missouri. We will be tossing the football around, swinging the Wiffle ball bat, and maybe tossing a fly rod or two as well.
Stop in for a dog, a chat, or the entire evening after fishing Friday.
