Soggy Sunday Scenery

Western Showy Aster | Aster conspicuus | Aster Family

I must be well rounded and in touch, because this is my favorite wildflower. It’s one of the reasons girls flock to me at the boat ramp…

If you believe that, I have some cheap Missouri riverfront property for sale.

Second cutting on the Oxbow a few weeks ago. A third cutting is growing as we speak. This rain will help things. Not at all hot this summer, not one day @ or over 100F. Nice.

The next big insect, or small, on our incredible resource. When will it happen? Well, I’ll tell ya. Not until October. We, meaning me, always believes that by some sort of autumn miracle the bugs will come early. Never, another pipe dream. Yet, another.

Hoppy Mo’day

Grasshopper fishing in Montana at HEadhunters Fly Shop on the famous Missouri River

Two-Striped Grasshopper | Melanoplus bivittatus | Grasshopper Order

Are they everywhere? No. Are they consuming all of the green mass around the river? No. Do the fish eat them at every opportunity they get? No.

Is hopper fishing and the eats associated with them out of this world? Damn Straight.

This feller came the other day while fishing north of town, well north. Fishing was average, about 2 takes a mile. Not bad, if you are into that kind of thing. The 2 takes are predatory fish, that are generally brown in flavor.

Cap’n Carp snapped this fella on the infamous Hadhunters porch. Right next to the legendary YETI.

Some of the HH gang has been fishing the big pink Morrish. Big fly, big fish theory sometimes prevails.

There are a bunch of hoppers on the banks, littering the shorline. Not many in the water. Odd? Maybe. Ask the Hopper god, on he knows.

Sunday Scenery

Sunflowers and fly fishing in MontanaPrarie Sunflower | Helianthus petiolaris | Aster Family

These common sunflowers line the roadways in Montana. Not uncommon to see entire fields of them wild while driving to your next great fishing destination. If you are smart, it should be here…on the world’s greatest dry fly fishery.

Boy, the fish are getting a little easier. Or some of them are. You will still bump into bomb proof sippers…that ignore the for hours at a time. Accept defeat and move forward. Or crack a fresh bbeer and continue the madness. Your choice.

Painted Turtle | Chrysemys picta | Pond and Box Turtle Family

See these fellers around the river, not as often as we would like. I know that they are good luck in saltwater circles, and probably in the trout circles as well.

Best of luck and Happy Sunday!

Silly Scenery Shots for Wednesday

Are there fish in here?

Cool spot that does not hold water all the time. Like to roam around when the water level allows it. Caught a nice one on a dry in here…on an attractor fly, big too.

Looks like nice cool water, probably some fish hanging in here seeking air…lots of air.

Eagle's on the Missouri River

Here's looking at you

Near Prewitt Creek ramp. It is still flooded, and lots of campers around. Lots of folks floating to here, and not so many from here. SOL has been frequenting this stretch, lots. He is a creature of habit…trying hard daily to change, daily.

Untouchables bridge near Mtn Palace ont eh Missouri River

Looking South

Checking out the Untouchables Bridge from the south side. I still like it. It is quite common to relive the scenes near this Canadian border. Killer gun fight too.

Nice, and fishing is still good.

Lunchtime antics. Fishing is still great. Come out, come out, where ever you are friends. Giving you respite from the large, obnoxious fish we have been posting. All you tree huggers should enjoy this post. Enjoy.

Raining this morning, feels good. Just let it not rain several inches in the upper reaches of our drainage.

Views from High Water

Missouri River Brown Trout

Nice fish in the High water. Keep casting, good things will happen. Lassik is a good hand, and never stops hitting it. Stay in the game, keep your head in the game.

Mid Canon

Float down the boat ramp, or at least the VIP spot. Fish tailouts and get ‘em.

Fly Fishing in Hi water onthe Mo

No trespassing brother, the Geese don't know ?

Is it still trespassing if there is water in the front yard? Maybe. Did catch some fish off of the weed break this fella has created. I anchored in lots of odd spots yesterday, mostly in front yards. No need  to water the lawn this week.

Awful nice fishing on the Mo

It is so nice on the Missouri, we just love it. Is fishing hard? Are you hard headed? I am. Get ‘em!

I love taking pictures of crappy birds…honest.

2fer 2day

Heron eats Snake

Check it

Do Heron eat fish? You be the judge. Today, and this shot happened. Talking about Heron’s, look over and there this fella is hangin’ out.

SOL’s Words of Wisdom: Always take the shot, always make the cast, always do it. In the space of life, those who say NO…well, they miss out on a lot of life.

Just say yes. Way more funner.

Squeeky just laid some sage advice down. Did you pick it up. I need to remind myself on a daily basis that I’m not getting any smarter…just hope I’m getting wiser.

Doubtful on both accounts.

Rainbow caught by a female on the Missouri River fly fishing

Peggy with a very respectable Brown 6/1

Fishing is good. Nymphing great, streamer fishing mediocre at best, dry fly…pretty shitty. A few up, yes…lots, no. Saw a few PMD’s today, 1 caddis, several BWO’s, 1 March Brown, scattered random midges…not much to report. Tomorrow, who knows. It’s a river. It lives. I, for one, still cannot predict what Mother Nature will bring us tomorrow. As I tell some guest of mine when they ask, ” What do you think the fishing will be like today?” My answer, ” I don’t know. I hope it will be good. I hope the fish will rise. etc….I only know what happened yesterday. I’m not some sort of clairvoyant. I’m just a fishing guide.

New Breed Chicks Rule. Age is not an issue, just attitude. As shown above. Again.
