Labor Day Delight

Get yer Sausages here at Headhunters...
Good Morning Headhunters…
The day after a great night in Craig Montana. Fly Sale is complete at Headhunters, and we sold a ton, or about a pound of flies…at 50% off, who could pass it up. Lots of boxes were stocked for the fall yesterday…hooray!
Izaak’s was rocking til late last night with music on the Log Jam…it was enjoyed by a large crowd, and they were on their best behavior, no unruly mob scenes.
Stormy Weather

Impending doom...
Shaun drifting home from oblivion. He is real near a cold PBR. I was too, thanks Shaun…made the drive back to the shop much cooler.
Guiding daily I am. Getting a little tired, physically. I used to get emotionally beat up by my clients…when I younger, dumber, way better looking…
Now I am far stronger mentally, and cannot be beat down. Not even surgeons or trial attorney’s got anything on me friends. But, at 3pm, you can out row me easy bro. I like using all that kids lingo…it makes me feel cool, and fresh.

Yet another brown cheek
Love catching these guys…on a dry. Not bad on a nymph either.
Afternoon T-Storms that have not really banged us up much…but they are scary. I get off the river, as a fly rod is a good conductor of energy, or so I understand.
Yet to see a trout that I am willing to die for…
Mid-July Madness

Luke Andrews posted up...
Luke posted up on dry fly fish. Darren got this fish to eat a dry, but it was not easy. Fun can be had today onthe Mo with any fishing fantasy that you hold. Bring your ticket and your dreams to Headhunters Fly Shop for fantasy remittance.
It’s good, all the way around. Any way you slice it…it’s good. The fishing part.
Will you catch 100 fish…probably not. Although I could just puke up 6 cups of coffee up this morning for the countless times I’ve heard of 100+ caught in a day…even Rome was not built in a day. 100, come on dude. You bullshit your friends, I’ll bullshit my friends, but let’s not bullshit each other.
Headhunters is wonderfully busy, as is the river. Not super busy, but a noticeable increase in anglers this last week. The fishing seems to be commensurate with the increase in pressure. Lots f fella’s out towards dark. The fishin’ and the caddis behaviors active in the waning light.

Vivian, nice...
Vivian caught her first fish yesterday…and it does not get better than this. She is so excited, or freaked out she forgot to smile. Thanks Vivian for spending your inaugural fishing day with us at Headhunters!
The fishing is fantastic folks, the water down, and the local fellowship…outstanding. Izaak’s slinging world class dinners until way late…have a cold Budweiser on our porch after a day of successes. We welcome you to cash in that fantasy ticket this summer. Although this ticket never expires…
Ooohh Boy!

Ohhh, boy
Deserves another look today at 82 year old Bill. He throws a dry better than most of the young whippersnappers on the river. Truly!
Just look at the size of this monster…Bill got this beauty on the 3rd cast. Dyno-mite.
The water is on the way down. It is going the right direction, at least for a while. Are we excityed. Yes.
You folks must have done your jigs, dances, or what ever you do to get the attention of the fish gods, the water gods, or the fella who controls the knobs at the dam.
Thank you for the water Mother Nature…now stay away for a while.

Another good one!
Wet, yes. Green, yes.

Green and good
Still wet in Montana. Still more wet stuff to come. It is a touch more wet than normal years. Dry winter, warm, no rain or snow. And here we are in the first part of June. All the nay-sayers predicted doom and gloom. That was last decade.

A small tributary of Wagner Creek dumps into the Missouri.
Wagner Creek can add a small touch of mud. Fishing near it can be productive. As is fishing any trib. after it has blown. There has got to be a lot of good stuff, worms, food, buffet line in and around the puke. The river is alive, as it is a living creature. I like how it breathes during this influx of water, trees, and various types of moving detritus. The entire system enjoys and thrives on more water. Yes, true.

Dearborn is blown
Fishing below the Dearborn is rumored to be terrible. That is the word. Headhunters guides have not ventured below the confluence. Mark Lane of great Waters Inn fished fished below it yesterday. Said it was awful. 2 Fish. You be the judge. Will it turn. Of course. We will keep you up to date on the condition of the river. As we always do. We do it for you, you drive this bus. We are just passengers. Wilfull participants.
Says it all. Fly Fish the Missouri River. More wet weather for this upcoming week. Holiday is over and we get the river back to ourselves. All the recreational floaters have gone home until the 4th of July. It was considered quite crowded for most this last weekend. With the Dearborn blown, it stuffed most of the angling crew upriver of the mud. Now today, peaceful. A few guides out, some other boats too. Stop by the Mo for a nice wade fish, boat fish, meal at Izaak’s…the river is your oyster my friends. We”ll help you if you need. Enjoy the week.
Yesterday in High Water. It’s good friends.
