Missouri River Fishing Report March 2nd

Spring is on the doorstep. Another couple weeks and we will reach the 1st day of spring. It’s coming.

Although the Groundhog thing said we would face another 6 weeks of winter last month. And we are seeing here in central Montana.

Snow on the ground and more on the way this weekend, and today. Wind too. A windy one Friday.

Winter is certainly touched down here this winter. And it is here to stay.

Towards the fishing report now. Pretty good. Not gangbusters though. It may go that way soon? 36F rising to 37F when the mercury rises a bit. Better fishing every increment on that temp scale.

Not too much happening on the river as of late. Far fewer anglers out there after the Presidents Day hangover. The weather has been pretty shitty for fishing.

Most of the fisher people have been swinging flies. A few strippers in the shop too. Fishing from the boat with slower retrieval patterns and techniques have yielded some trout to hand. Those swinging have reported an uptick in grabs. Water temps will only improve that as we move through this month.

March is the transition month. Fishing gets better through November from this point on. We are hoping for a good midge showing this year. They flirted with us for a bit a couple weeks ago and we anticipate that to continue this month of March. Check in often or call us up if you ever want the wind or bug report.

Nymphers have been getting it done with the traditional winter fare. PINK. DEEP. SLOW.

More and more spring and summer stock coming in daily. SIMMS, Headhunters Logo Wear, flies, accessories, reels, rods, lines, and more!

Spring Special is out there. It gets rolling in 2 weeks! $350 guide trips. Book it!
