HEADHUNTERS SAYS: We’ve carried G. Loomis rods since we opened our doors, and while Loomis doesn’t own the same share of the fly rod market they once did, they still make some of the best casting rods in the world. When you have the worlds best caster – Steve Rajeff – designing rods for you, they tend to be pretty good. Loomis makes a lot of great rods, but these are two of the most popular here in Montana. The new NRX 9′ #5 LP (Lite Presentation) has become sought after by those who follow George Anderson’s Yellowstone Angler 5 Weight Shootout. This rod is the 2015 winner. While we might not rate it #1 for the Missouri, it’s definitely in the conversation and is the perfect technical dry fly tool. The NRX Trout Series 9′ #6 has always been one of our best selling 6 weights. It’s very light, and is not an “under-rated” rod. It’s a #6. Perfect for all kinds of trout fishing, and if I was going to choose a 6 weight for little dries, this would be on the list. We love the tiny fighting butt that Loomis puts on all 6 weights. It’s unobtrusive, yet there when you need it. The small fighting butt has made this rod very popular here on the Missouri, and also with women anglers who like that extra help when fighting a big fish.
