Signs of Improvement

Much cooler Monday Labor Day after the hot and smoky Sat and Sun Weekend period. Hi of 75, winds from the north allowed the smoke to pass to another county. At least for Monday. Possibly the clearest day in a month. Refreshing.

The fishing is good. Saw signs of fall fishing yesterday out there. Dammed it in the morning and floated to Craig. Nymphed decent in the shadow of Holter with the typical fly selections including Zebra’s, Ninch’s Ball Gag, Cheesemen Emergers, Little Green Machines, Two Bit Hookers, Czechs, worms, Zirdles.

Fish moving into the hard banks again as the weeds have at least temporarily given us a break. Much better Monday. Fish on the insides in medium to deep depths. Runs, flats, your choice. Cooler water temperatures will get those fish back in more normal waters.

Hoppered it after lunch and found some that would move for the big meal. Then short leashed home for one good action in moving waters.

Not too bad. Expect more of that to come as we move away from the holiday into September. While you can catch some nice fish in August many choose to fish the other fantastic rivers in our fishy state. It’s nearly fall, so welcome back.

A good time to come on out as streamer fishing is in front of us, all day long nymph bites, and dry fly afternoons. All in the cards this fall on your favorite river in Montana.

Give us a shout if you want detailed fishing info, lodging questions and reservation in one of our 25+ houses, cabins, and rooms for rent. Stop in for current river info and tackle suggestions. Still some gear on sale after our successful Labor Day Weekend Fly Sale. We appreciate you as customers and anglers. Thanks so much. See you this fall on the Mo.
