Headhunters Fly Shop | Missouri River Montana

The Fly Shop

We understand that the reason you walk into a fly shop is to get information.

Information. Education. Customer Service.

We’ve built our business around the above principals. We understand. The reason you walk into a fly shop is to get information, probably not to drop hundreds on a new rod and reel. That OK with us, we do the same thing ourselves when fishing a new area. Quality information speeds up the “catching process”, and can be the difference between a successful fishing trip and an exploratory mission.  Our team will make sure you have the right flies & tackle, know what hatches to expect and when to expect them, and get you pointed in the right direction whether you’re floating or wade fishing. And if you’re looking for that new fly rod you’ve always wanted, we can take of that as well.

The Best Gear

Headhunters may appear small from the outside. It is. But inside you’ll find a great selection of the best gear for the sport. Simms, Sage, Orvis, Hatch, RIO, YETI, Galvan, Howler Bros., Buff, Mt Khaki… just some of the great names you’ll find at Headhunters. More importantly, our staff is intimately familiar with all of the products we sell. We use this stuff every day. If we don’t like it, or think our customers won’t, we get rid of it. Our team can help you pick the best product, value and options for your fly fishing needs.

Fly Selection

If a fly shop was alive – and sometimes it seems like ours is – the fly bins would be the heart. Without the flies, why would you even go in? That’s why it’s called a “Fly Shop”. Our fly selection is Missouri River specific, and famous for having what you need when you need it. Our staff and guides have been instrumental in finding new and better patterns each year. Flies considered essential on the Missouri River – the Buzzball, Skiddish Smolt, Limestone Cripple and others – were first touted by our staff and guides. They’re on the river every day and know exactly what is working and when.

A Great Staff

All the great gear in the world can’t make up for a lousy staff. Fortunately, we don’t have that problem. Our staff is made up of energetic anglers who love the sport and will help you with everything from rod selection to picking out flies to arranging guides and lodging. They’ll even spend the time to show you how to tie a knot or set up a nymph rig. No grumpy or arrogant attitudes here! We want you to succeed and enjoy hearing when our advice to you pays off.

Services

We don’t’ just sell stuff at Headhunters. We are here to help with lodging, guides, rental boats, shuttles, catering, shipping, and more. If we don’t offer a service, we know who does and can make arrangements for you.

Community

Headhunters is a hotbed of activity on the Missouri River. Our shop is a  cell phone and WiFi hotspot for those who need to stay connected. Our porch is always hopping during Apres’-fishing, lit up by laptop displays and iPhone screens, while anglers and guides recount the days success’s and failures. Our Casting Range is a popular hangout after fishing, as anglers try out the latest and greatest new rods, or pick up a casting tip from one of the many fine casters on the Missouri. There might even be a cold beverage in the shop YETI if you’re thirsty. Every Saturday during the summer months we have a free BBQ as well. Yes!
