What to
Bring
For many fishermen and women,
gear is a big part of the sport. While we hope you'll buy
some new toys from us, here is a list of what you must have with
you for a day on the Missouri:
Clothing
-Rain Jacket (a must at all times)
-hat and polarized sunglasses
-long sleeve shirts for sun protection
-Sunscreen and bug juice
-fishing license
Bring the clothes and stuff that you are comfortable
in...all boats have dry storage
It is Montana, right on the Rocky Mt. front. Keep in mind the WEATHER
CHANGES FREQUENTLY...so warm extra layers are good to have in
both Spring and Fall.
Typical trout fishing equipment
will suffice on the Missouri, but anglers should lean towards
the heavier side.
Rods
-For dry fly fishing, 8 1/2' to 9' 4-6 weight rods.
-For nymph fishing, 9' to 10' 5-6 weight rods.
-For streamer fishing, 9' to 10' 6-7 weight rods.
-Reels should have capable drags and carry at least 75 yards of
backing.
-Floating lines will work for all of your fishing. Sink
tips are sometimes used for streamer fishing.
Waders
- Breathable waders are a must when fishing from a boat.
We only use Simms waders, made here in Montana. The
Missouri is easy wading, so felt or Aquastealth soles work fine.
No need for studded boots, and many guides will not let you
wear them in the boat.
-Wet wading is popular from mid-June through early
September. Most anglers and guides wear sandals with or
without felt bottoms. No Flip-flops! Shorts or hot
weather pants.
Terminal Tackle (provided on guided trips)
-Leaders should be 9' to 12', and taper to 2-5X.
-Tippet spools, 2X-5X.
-Nymph fisherman should bring there favorite indicators if
they have one.
-Split shot
