Last Weeks Efforts

Last Weeks Efforts

Here’s a few images from fly tying night last week.  Above, Ninch shows us the Barbi Nymph.  Pretty Sweet and it will account for more than a few fish in March, April and May.  You can tie it with gray Sow-Scud dubbing as shown, or pink.  They both work, especially when tied correctly.  Who’s a thunk a Sasquatch had such dexterity?

Here’s a nice Caddis Pupa from guide Eric Mondragon.  These things get ‘em from April to August on the Missouri.  Not many dudes using green anymore.  Why not?

We had our first youth tier at Fly Tying Night in America, last week.  Max and his dad came up from Great Falls.  Max showed us the in’s and out’s of his favorite Fire Bead Ray Charles – the pink one if you’re color blind – and does a nice and consistent job of tying for someone who is still several years away from getting his drivers license.

Veteran fly tier Bob Lay also made the journey from Helena and tied these killer midge dries.  Bob is spending time teaching local veterans from Helena how to tie flies, and is definitely in the groove.  This thing should start working wonders in the next few weeks as our midge hatches intensify.

Tim was ruling the room with his great looking streamer patterns and we especially liked this “feather tail”, clouser-ish, baitfish pattern with some “bleeding bait” highlights.  Well done.  Well done.

Sara brought some game as well.  Still working on her cone head bugger that’s she plans on spanking some trout with in March. Black always works. So does grizzly. Nice!

Be there tonight at 6pm to show us your stuff.  You too may be immortalized on the Headhunter.
