Missouri River Montana Fishing Report 3.10.13

Outstanding. Missouri River Montana Fishing Report for Sunday March 10th is as follows.

Yesterday brought us sunny, calm, 54.6F. So, perfect. Except for the sun and lack of cloud cover.

You couldn’t convince the many anglers drifting, bank fishing, and just running about that Saturday wasn’t the best day all spring.

We had a terrific SALE Saturday with some Demo Rods & reels going out the door. Also cool Headhunters Logo wear, vests, softshells, shoes, rainjackets, shorts, shirts, rainpaints…Look to next Saturday for another Headhunters Super Saturday Sale.

Well, pretty damn good. The key is the weather. Overcast skies make the dry fly bite much, much better. Mr. Sun is not welcome…until the PMD’s make and appearance in June. THen, bring on the burning ball of fire.

Midging the Missouri River

Overcast, yes the key to success. Or bring a big, a very large, umbrella. The midges will hatch in the sun, but the trout do not respond to the blinding light.

Hot Flies: Cluster Midge, Matt’s Pink Wing, Buzzball, Dbl. Posted Cluster, Black Posted Cluster…a Griffith’s Gnat will suffice everyday.

Nymphing the Missouri River

Hot Flies: Firebeads rule the day. Amex, Rainbow Czech, Pink LB, Zebra, Newman’s Own, Blooms TB, Granada’s Snack Nasty, Tailwater Sowbug Rainbow, Soft Hackle Scud Pink, Hunchback Scud, TB Tailwater Sow, Choi’s Spicy Scud, Rainbow Warrior, and worm.

Streamer Flies for the Missouri River

Folks have really be digging the smaller black buggers. The jig flies have been flying out the door too. Dry lines are the rule. You can use a intermediate tip if you wish, but with the lower flows you do not need to.

Hot Flies: Jawbreaker White, black Clouser, R2R, Skip’s Rainbow Trout, Superflash Zonker, Clouser Gold Shiner, Clous-A-Bou’s in all flavors, Kraft’s Kreelex, Cool Hercules…
