DRIFT BOAT, INFLATABLE & KAYAK RENTALS

Drift boat rentals are very popular with do-it-yourself anglers on the Missouri River. The gentle, slow flows make the Missouri easy for rowers of any skill level (with extreme high flows being the exception). Drift boats allow anglers to fish deep center of the river nymphing runs, as well as anchor up on pods of rising fish that would be inaccessible on foot.

ADIPOSE FLOW

Headhunters rents Adipsoe Flow skiffs built locally in Helena, MT. These are considered the benchmark for drift boats, and by far the best boat for big rivers like the Missouri. Adipose skiffs have front and rear pedestal seating, removable leg braces, tons of dry storage and 10′ rod trays so you can bring your entire quiver. They float through the shallowest of riffles, and have stability that rivals your father’s cabin cruiser. They also feature full walk-through design that makes switching spots simple and safe.

The Adipose is the most popular model of boat amongst our guides. You see them everywhere when you’re in Craig and all along the Missouri River. For good reason. Adipose has set a new bar for drift boats. They are the only hard sided boats we rent, because they are the best. Period.

NRS FREESTONE

NEW FOR 2014 Headhunters will be an exclusive dealer for the new NRS Freestone inflatable drift boat (IDB). We were fortunate enough to be involved in the testing of these new boats last summer, and are excited to add them to our fleet this year.

The Freestone is a deadly quiet boat that floats through nothing, and weighs even less. Perfect for just about any piece of water in the state, the Freestone gives you a big advantage over hard sided boats when on freestones in late summer.

You can read all about this new boat here.

HOW IT WORKS

After you’ve reserved a boat with Headhunters, call or check in the night before and let us know when you would like the boat in the water and where. The next morning, we will tow the boat to the put in so it will be waiting for you at the ramp and time you specified. While you are floating, we will shuttle your vehicle to the take out you specify. When you’re done with the float, anchor the boat on the beach and you can load up your rig and leave. We will come pick the boat up at our convienence. Easy, and you don’t need to worry about hitches on rentals cars, etc. You are responsible for any damage done to our boats, as well as the equipment inside them. You will be required to sign a Limitation of Liability Boat Rental Form when renting a boat from Headhunters, LLC.

DIABLO KAYAK RENTALS

If you like to roll stealthy and solo, you need to try one of our Diablo SOT/SUP Kayaks. Diablo makes hybrid sit-on-top/stand-up-paddleboard ‘yaks for anglers. These are very popular in the redfish marshes of the gulf. We though we’d try them on the Missouri, and they work fantastic. Silent and easy to paddle, they are a great vessel for moving spot to spot. If the wind is right, you can even fish out of them standing up. These are best for those who like to move up and downstream from wade spot to wade spot. We can attach a rope and anchor (no pully-system) if you want, but we use them without. All of our SOT Kayaks are “u-haul”, so you’ll need a truck, flatbed trailer, roof rack or some system for transporting to and from the river.

RESERVATIONS

During peak rental boat periods (July, August and September) you should definitely make a reservation ahead of time. Our drift boat fleet is commonly all reserved when the mid-summer dry fly fishing is hot. Call the shop at 1-877-379-3597 or 406-235-347.

US  MILITARY VETERANS

Headhunters also manages two drift boats specifically for use by Veterans of all branches of the US Militarty. We have an Adipose Flow Skiff (you’ve probably seen it with the grey digi-camo), and a Hyde hi-sided drift boat. These boats have been made available by Montana Project Healing Waters and Adipose Boatworks. There are no rental fees, the use of the boats is entirely free when you haul them! Reservations do need to be made, and any shuttles or boat drops do require a fee. These boats are very popular with our local armed forces community, as well as veterans who travel to the Missouri River from elsewhere. Call the shop for more information.
