Flows dropping to 4800 cfs today as we Monto the last gasp of July.  Wade fishers paradise.

Daily events include the Trico spinner fall @ 845 am.

Later in the morning you may see the PMD spinner fall.

Move past noon and get the caddis out of the box.

Crawfish are king. Zirldes too. For the nymphing crowd. Throw it short, long, or in the middle. With or without split shot. Indside, outside, or in the middle. Find your apace near the bottom and let it ride. Rainbow Czech’s, Frenchie’s, UV Czech’s, Tungsten PT Jigs or one of. the multitude of T-Headed flies available today. Tiny PMD, micro Trico, and the like for the bottom fly. Stop in the shop for the up to the minute fly selections and rigging techniques.

Not a ton of traffic out there. Just like missing the snow at Christmas at a ski area, this summer may be the summer that fishing forgot. The high water has kept the non guided angler off of the river for 3 months this spring and early summer. Now, we reap the rewards. Obviously busy on 90F+ weekend days. Floatilla! Beyond the weekend, the river is quiet. Pretty nice.

The entire river is fishing well. Quite a few on the two lower reaches. No many in the canyon. Some dry fly boats drifting around on the upper two floats.

Tricos hatching to about Mid Canon. A few lower, but the masses live upstream.THe dry fly bit edna go south about noon. Later some days. But the dry fly game is on, here fishing Montana’s Missouri River.

Come on out and see us for lodging, guides, shuttles, flies, rigs, SIMMS, the best in accessories, friendly staff, and the winner of the Craiglandia Central Fly Shop of the Year Headhunters Fly Shop & Guide Service.

Open daily @ 6am. Open late til 9pm. Your first stop in downtown Craig.

  • Can’t wait to fish with you guys this Wednesday and Thursday. I”m flying in Tuesday and staying at Prewett RV Park. Look for my step dad, Dan Bush to come in tomorrow (Monday) and chat it up. This is his first ever fly fishing experience where I’ve been throwing a 5wt for about 20 years now. I’m coming in from Detroit and mostly fish Manistee, Pere Marquette, and the Holy Waters of the Au Sable in Grayling. Super excited to meet you guys and have some tight lines on the water. See you soon!
