Hump Day Missouri River Fishing Report

Nymph or streamer fish in the morning hours. No need to be out there at daybreak, It is dark. First light about 730 am. That will change with the daylight savings change in the near future. Then we will stay with later starts even with that time adjustment.

Be in your dry fly region in the afternoon. But with the wind this last couple weeks you may not have enough bugs to get them up. Or you might? Everyday is different. You gotta go to know.

Some quite good dry fly action in th slower canyon and in the WC to Mid Canon region too. Cascade? Have not been there this past week with the wind. This coming week I will be in that reach a few times with the industry guests around the shop. They love that lower water. We do too!

The streamer bite has been variable. Yesterday only a couple fish before 3pm. Then, at 5 mites to 3, they started to feed. Landed several fish from 3 til 6pm. Then a few on the sway out in the near dark. Pattern didi not seem to matter as our anglers had on 5 or 6 different streamer flies. Black, natural, olive, bright, and white.

Headhunters has the goods for  all of your fall fishing needs. More flies than you possibly need, new flit lines for that streamer rod, the swing capital of the Missouri River and beyond with tons of lines, tips, rods, and accessories along wit the education to further your plight.

Shop open daily at 730am and ope til darkish. Guides out daily through Thanksgiving. So get on board and give us a call on our Fall Fishing Hotline 406-235-3447. Operators standing by.

Also, proud to announce that Headhunters again is Craig Montana’s Central Business District Fly Shop of the Year! 9 years running. What on honor…

See you blowing down the river, or at least your hat this week ahead. We do have snow in the forecast. We like that. Maybe the wind will die down!

  • Wish the guides on the Big Hole were as generous with knowledge about that river. It seems as though if your not greasing their palms with green, they like to play dumb and give as little information as possible. Little do they realize they lost my business for that reason. Great info from you guys.
    Thanks

  • So right you are Bob! And did you know they have coffee on the side brewin’, have shuttles, rental cabins, rental boats, guides, flies, and jokes too Bob. They have got great jokes, too!

    • For PMD’s third week in June. For BWO’s 2nd week of October. For Trico’s 2nd week of July. For nymphing anytime. The best week is any week you can come fishing! Call the shop and they will give you lots of options!
