Memorial Day Weekend Fishing Report

Memorial Day Weekend Fishing Report

The river is blown below the Dearborn River. A bundle of mud being spit from the Little Prickley Pear as well. DB at 1450cfs and falling, slowly. LPP at 548cfs, and falling slowly.

Temporarily. Until the hot conditions later this coming week. So a dip, slight, and then ad rise. And that may deliver the final snow melt for the year.

And that is too soon. Way too soon.

Low conditions for the entire summer is how it looks as we stand right now.

Right now not much fishing at all below the DB. From Craig to Mid Canon off color.

Yup, crowded up river. Holiday weekend. Lots of anglers here.

Nymphing is the way to the net. Most often. Sows are back. Worms too. Scuds not as much. PMD nymphs are hot. BWO nymphs still in play. March Brown nymphs waning. 6′  from split to bobber. Shorter is you wanna eliminate the split shot. Try one of our many Euro Nymphs to sink your nymph rig rapidly if you wish.

Some dry fly action. Meaning not much. Will the PMD’s bring those fish to the surface?

The water will stay low. Probably lower than it is currently. The recent rain and snow did add bit to the seasonal total. But not enough. Still lower that historically average.

When we started the snow storm the Jefferson drainage was holding at 50%. Now 80% YTD. Not enough. It rose rapidly. And can drop, rapidly. Look at the chart after the week ahead with daily air temps ramping up towards the 90F mark. With air temps not dropping below 45F in the hills, the snow keeps melting all day, and night long.

The streamer game is strong. Toss it out there. Good luck this past week with Kreelex, Skiddish Smolt Brown, Montana Intruder, Goldie was hot. White, cream, chartreuse. Good colors. Come by for the best streamer fly line selection in the canyon. Flies too. 150+ streamer patterns in stock and in charge! Headhunters has the Best Flies Under the Big Sky, and in stock too!

Lots of cool logo go wear in stock. Rods, reels, and soft goods from the best in the biz. Shuttles on the river here as well as the Dearborn River too. Adipose boat rentals, NRS rafts for sale, Sage Sonic and LL rods, the Headhunter Fly Line, and all the sun gear you need for protection.

Open daily 7-8. Have a safe weekend!
