Water temps mid 40’s. Gauge is down for the past couple days. But we’ve been knee deep swinging all week long and wool socks are a strong suggestion!
Water flows holding at 3K.
Swingers like medium fast or medium speed waters with either bugs near the surface or near the bottom. Fished a skated fly yesterday and got a couple fish under 16″ yesterday. Great skinny water runs are just ready for a dry fly on the swing. Also fished an Intermediate Skagit Head with good success along with a heavier fly. Got some larger fish when we ventured deeper.
All fun out there. Lots still clinging to the Scandi Style as we have the balance of the winter for fishing deep and slow and cold waters.
Nymphers getting it done with the Sow and Scud marriage. Pink will make an appearance as we get into the new year. But until then we will appreciate flies that do not include the fairer shade of red.
The streamer gang has been really whacking ’em too. Flashy, olive, white, brown and yellow seem to be the recent hot colorways. If that fails, try a black woolly bugger.
Most are throwing some sort of intermediate streamer line. A couple are employing a deeper type 3 sink tip or better. Those anglers are familiar with the sub-surface structures and applying that knowledge finding those deeper troughs.

Lots of local lodging around for the holidays and winter sessions. As far as the restaurant scene you are relegated to the Prewitt Creek Missouri River Inn open daily 12-8 everyday but Monday. The two bars in Cascade are open til 9pm for four generally. Call down there to get in and check current hours for bar food. Closed are Izaak’s, and Shotgun Annies for the season.
