12’ #5, 12’6” #6, 13’ #7
HEADHUNTERS SAYS: One of the great ‘budget’ spey rods on the market, the Orvis Clearwater Spey series is a great starter setup, but we doubt a veteran two-handed caster would grouse too much. These rods lean towards the Skagit side, and are great for throwing big tips and Intruders. They will, however, toss a Scandi line with ease. The 12′ 6″ #6 is a great rod for the Missouri and interior summer Steelhead. We would choose the 13′ #7 if the Olympic Penninsula was on our agenda, and it’s still usable for trout, though a bit on the heavy side.
