Missouri River Fishing Report Craig Montana Late July
Trico’s a daily occurrence on the Mo!
Missouri River Fishing Report for the last week in July in Craig from Headhunters Fly Shop the info leader.
Dry fly fans like the daily, almost, daily Trico hatch. Clusters, singles, spinners, and the like. Dead drift is king. Mo River trout eat dead flies. Dead Flies Don’t Swim.
Caddis out there as well. 16 and 18 sized patterns will work. Try your favorite downwinged patterns that lie in the film.
Grasshoppers yes. Ants yes. Beetles yes. Zirdles yes. Crawfish yes. Zonkers Yes.
Flows are 4300 cfs, temps 64F. Good cooler weather this coming week coupled with rain, temps below the 80F mark, and lighter traffic.
We have fallen off the July Cliff. Will be quieter on the river except for weekend days when the floaty families are out in force. Fishing traffic will pick up in September. If you like pretty difficult dry fly angling that will separate the pros from the recreationalists this is your time. Weeds become more of an issue as we movie through the late summer. Can get gooey out there. We are not in any danger of Hoot-Owl in the near future. Got ten days of decent late summer weather that will keep water temps reasonable.
Stop in and see us daily 6am-7pm. Shuttles, flies, ideas, suggestions, solutions, fly lines, sun protection, cool eyewear, and so forth…
