USGS Streamflow Sites

USGS Streamflow Sites and Snotel Recoding are invaluable tools for floaters, anglers and agriculture producers in the west. We check these every morning before we head out for the river. Besides the 3 we use daily in Craig, we’ve included a few of the most important sites around the state for Montana floaters and fly fishers. We’ve also included a few from other Northern Rockies states, in case you’re headed beyond Montana on your adventures.

THE PURISTS.

The Missouri River is known as one of the top dry fly fisheries in the West. Many of our customers adhere to the “Dry Fly Only” principle, refusing to fish subsurface. Matching the hatch is the goal, and they spend their day scanning the surface for subtle risers. Only as a last resort do they make a cast without targeting a specific fish. While often challenging, our guides love doing it as well as long as expectations match casting and fishing skills. It’s the ultimate test of a trout fisherman or woman’s skill. Casts need to be accurate and delicate, and pattern choice can be critical. We carry an excellent selection of dry flies for the famous mayfly and caddis hatches of the Missouri River, and you can check them out below.
