Missouri River Fishing Report 10.10.25 Craig MONTANA

Improving daily as we get into the meat of October. The weather is forecast to change as we will witness snow, rain, and traditional markers of fall in central Montana. The weekend will bring those cooler air temps coupled with snow and rain and probably wind. Beautiful fall colors on the vegetation surrounding the river and associated canyons and hills and of course the Rocky Mtn. front.

And probably bugs. And probably fewer anglers. And probably more fish feeding near the surface.

Will the bugger bite improve as well? Yes, the cloud covering the sun is vital to skinny water fishing. And with the flows below 2800cfs we are certainly low. Looks like it will be continuing through next spring. The. lower water, not the snow. Snow will hopefully be continuing throughout the winter ahead as we look to get back to better than average precipitation numbers increasing our water levels in this very magnificent resource.

The dry fly activity int he last 72 hours has been steadily improving. More and more little bugs, mayflies, and autumn caddis and a smattering of other insect activity has trigger the top water look of our trout. Hooray!

Nymphers have been steadily gaining interest in the trout as fall consumes the river. Sow bugs are king. Small BWO patterns will prevail. Worms never fall from fashion. I see deep and I see shallow nymphers around. If you like to scratch the bottom you will prevail. You will find weeds. You will find fish in the deeper pools and runs and troughs. Many like deeper rigs in the am, and after lunch switch to the short leash techniques with success.
