Missouri river Mid July Fishing Report from HEadhunters of Craig Montana
Trico’s daily. AM’s that are warm bring the bugs earlier. Cool eves postpone the morning for a bit. Spinner falls 10am. Clusters and singles and Double Winged Trico’s get it done. Buzzballs too. G-Man to the rescue?
PMD’s here and there. Good spinner falls mean that the bugs must be hatching. But not huge emergences during the day. Nighttime emergences? Been arguing this point for years. Spinners rule.
Caddis abound. Downwinged, Translucent emergers and pupa’s, Double Duck, Corn Fed Caddis, Palmered Caddis, X- Caddis, Hi Viz caddis, Stocking Wing Hi Viz, CDC and Elk, and so many more at HH of Craig.
Spruces too. Fish them blind? Fish them with confidence.
Ants? We like ‘em. Trout too.
Hoppers being tossed out there on that there river.
Nymphers liking the Zirdle, the mayfly nymph, the sow bug.
Flows in the mid-3K’s. Temps above 60F.
River pressure? Busy. But not June or may busy. July busy. Most are on the upper end. Dam will become busier and boat traffic more concentrated as we move toward August. Are there fish below Craig? Yes. Most believe No.
Open daily 6am for the summer run. At least through July.
