Welcome to 2026!
Welcome to 2026. We love the turning of the page looking forward to the trout year ahead.
A breakdown of the events that we witness annually. All based on water levels of course. Will we get the water we need? Rain and snow dances. That is your part of the equation. Start today. Dancing. After the fuzz of last nite leaves your head.
This author up past midnight with 2 glasses of chapagne. First time I’ve made it to the event. The fireworks in Cascade here lasted 1.5 seconds. Pretty short. Much more fireworks aead of us this coming year.
Winter fishing is winter fishing. Pink, deep and slow, for the nymphers. Deep and slow for the swingers. Some days you can find a bit of a midge bite on the surface.
Spring brings March Browns, Mother’s Day Caddis, a scant Skwala appearance, Blue Winged Olives, and midge. Right place right time for the dry fly gang. Nymphers like that the bite improves daily. Dry fly anglers like that the dry fly rod has awakened. Strippers love that the biggest brown trout of the season may come in May. Swingers like the improved action and water temp rise.
Summer is of course Caddis, Pale Morning Dun, and Trico time. Later some terrestrial action as well. Nymphers like the bobber action which is strong.
And then fall. A long way off.
But today we thank you the Missouri River angler for your support all year long here at Headhunters of Craig. Your information source of all things Mo. Truly.
Book your trips today. Your lodging today. Or at least start putting together your plan for 2026 Mo River visits. May and June dates nearly gone. Thnks about it soon.
To all of you out there around the world, Happy New Year!
