Missouri River Fishing Report

Windy. Most every day. Lots of high winds speeds. That is the synopsis of the ‘25-’26 winter. So far.

Will it change? We hope so.

Currently 36F. 3200cfs water flows. Lighter wind speeds for the forecast week ahead. Hooray! Air temps in the 30’s and 40’s. A good winter forecast for fishing the Missouri River this January. Headhunters open daily for shuttles, flies, trout spey tips and demo gear…lodging too!

Deep and slow. Find the back end of the pool. Fish the inside of the bend. Deep and dark. Repeat.

Swingers needing not too much more then the 5’int-5’S3/T-8 combo. With lower water levels than normal the deepest tips need not be employed this week. Black is killer. Somedays flash. I change water types more often than I change fly patterns. Make sure you are int eh winter water.

Come by the shop this winter for the best in Spey Fishing gear, suggestions, techniques, and approach, demo lines and more. We love to talk about the swing!

Nymphs include pink, sow derivatives, black midge. The bite has been good on both the swing and soak techniques.

That is the report. No more. Winter tactics apply.
