Hump Day in Central Montana
Getting hotter here in Central Montana. Threatening 100F this weekend. Yikes!
Water temps bouncing around at 65F today. Water levels at 3K plus.
Dry fly anglers finding the Trico hatch and sinner fall late morning very good. Some days the spinner fall lasting beyond lunch. Others, not so much.
Clusters seek to be good enough right now. Single ParaSpinners of the Trico variety getting some attention. Buzzballs coming back strong. Griffith’s Gnats? Yessir. Double Winged Spinners, CDC Trico Emerger, CDC Trico Hanging Cripple, Sunken Trico…
Caddis hanging around. Not enough to make us smile daily. Fish will eat the CaddisFly. Translucent Emerger and Translucent Pupa finding some fish hanging below a seem lead fly.
Nymphers fishing the center of the river finding the depths. Some small fly love with a double Trico Rig fishing well. Little Black Mo, Little Green Machine, Baby Frenchie, several Perdigon slender Trico patterns leaving daily.
Hoppers? Yes. Ants? Even more of a yes.
Slower traffic. Many on at the 9 o’clock bell. Some at 8am. Hot afternoons will drive the start times earlier.
Weeds int the water column. Not bad. More to come.
Weekends will be full of non-anglers beginning with the hot temps Satruday. Fish before noon. take a Siesta, have a snack at Izaak’s, and head out at 7 for the evening bite.
Most anglers are nymphing with the balance tossing the dry fly at rising trout. May are also blind fishing with the dry-dropper set up or dry-dry combo’s.=
