Caddis in flight. Mating rituals. Mo River Craig Montana.
Realities of insect activity this year. Not as many bugs out.
A mediocre PMD so far. Some great days, but not heavy hatches daily. But, still good action during the hatch period daily 930-130. Not one great spinner fall that this author has witnessed. A few fish on spinners yes. But not a terrific daily event to plan your dry fly activity around.
Decent caddis. Not over the top. Not terrible. But not a huge event. Yet? Good action on dry fly’s. Even during the PMD event. Downwing, emergent's dn spent a good choice. Pupa’s subsurface pretty good. Good success on a Caddis Pupa and PMD combo.
Light streamer acute picking up this past week. Anemic insect bite? Move toward tossing the meaty trout alternative. Leeches have been real good. Light line or intermediate tips fished with purpose will find some trout to the net.
Lots of boats out there. Lots.
Go early, go late. If you go during peak put in and take out periods, expect delays.
Some soft hackle success out there too. Not everyday. But, sometimes.
Flows 3K-ish. Temps 56F+.
Trico’s soon.
Sleet, hail and rain today.
