Current Missouri River Fishing Report
Seasonal. Windy.
Low water. 3K cfs. Although quite normal, the new normal.
Water temps 36F. Seasonal. Normal. No shelf ice. Easy wade fishing.
Shop open daily. Normal.
Strippers getting it done. Fished with the gang from Rising Fishing this weekend. Slow, almost nymphing, as Scott of Rising stated…Strymphing. Dead drifting with tension, and occasionally twitching towards the reel in deep water buckets and troughs. Dolly Llama, Arnolds Stinger Sculpin Olive/White, Dali Llama Chinchilla White, Purple Heart, Montana Intruder, and the like.
Nymphers like PINK. Deep and slow. Takes can be light. Almost imperceptible. That is normal. Stay away from any good looking water focussing on winter type water including nearly stopped and deep. Primarily.
There are fish in all types of water excluding fast summer riffles. While there are fish in almost all locales, the percentage game will tell you to focus on deader, deeper, darker winter 36F regions for winter bobber success. Major leaguers bat for average. Chasing bad balls does not make an MVP batter. Ever.
Occasional dry fly ops. Midge Clusters, Adams, CDC Hanging Midge, Zebra from the hook bend and so forth.
Swingers getting it done. Pretty good bite out there. Slow and deep. Skagit tips. Many 5’ intermediate with 5’ type 3. Many with 10’ of T-8. Muted colors have been good. Some days flashy on fire. Headhunters of Craig the go-to Trout Spey locale in the Rocky Mountain Region. Tons of lines, lots of experience, always ready to help anglers break through to the next level.
