Monday, Snow, Overcast, and greatness.
Snow on the ground in Craig. Snow on the ground around the river. Overcast skies today and through the week ahead. Fish love moving to the surface when the lights are low. And, the light is low.
Pretty stoked about the fishing ahead of us. Yes, no more sun for the week ahead.
Fill your fly cup with BWO patterns. We love a Parachute Adams in many sizes. You probably have a few of those. We also love CDC and poly winged cripple patterns. Some dig the RS2 type emerger patterns. Very good flies for catching our trout here on the Missouri River.
But, presentation is our focus for the rising trout on this river. I believe that drift is king. Drift is the primary objective in the eyes of trout. The pattern does not matter if the drift is terrible. Most of our trout, certainly the ones you wanna catch, are eating bits and pieces of dead and decomposing bugs. Drift is the #1 component of catching trout on the surface.
Most anglers, nymphers, are on the upper river. Streamer anglers get around a bit more. Dry fly anglers love to be in their happy place as 2pm approaches daily.
Come by and see us for any info before heading out to the river. Open daily 8am. Guides, lodging, and trout fishing products @ Headhunters Fly Shop in downtown Craig Montana.
