Sunday July 5th Water, fish, bug update

Amanda this last week fighting her first Mo River Trout fishing with HH Guide Mark Raisler

Water dropping under, or about, 10K today. We expect it to drop all week. Inflows at Toston are currently 7500cfs. Outflows may, or may not, match inflows in the near future.

Trico’s not here. Yet. Historically a July 5th start for the smallest of our fishable insects. Coming soon.

PMD’s. Excellent. PMD dry fly anglers are happy. PMD nymphers are happy. HH has the best selection in town.

Caddis. Yes. Most dry fly fish recently, the past week or better, caught on caddis patterns. Many caught on PMDs too, but do not disregard the lowly caddis. Down-wings and spent along with emergers rule the day.

Fish? The Missouri River fish are damn healthy. Lots of big fish on dry flies along with numerous on the  nymph. It is fishing well. Many would argue the dry fly bite above 10K is unprecedented. Nymphing rock solid at 10K and above. Generally not too good anywhere from 10K-15K. Better above and below. This year? Strong.
