He loves this reel. And had it by his side fishing the Mo for nearly 20 years.

Happy Thursday. What is your favorite reel?

  • Hardy Marquis. Had it about 35 years

  • Pflueger Medalist. Wide spool.

  • Teton Tioga – almost 20 yrs old and still whipping chrome and trout, smallies! Classic cool look too. Drag is still very good.

  • Yesterday while fishing a well traveled section of the Gallatin I found a Lamson liquid reel attached to the butt section of an echo rod. It’s got a cool patina from spending at least one full season bouncing around the bottom before being deposited for me to find. Currently my new favorite!

Hardy St George. A sentimental, not functional, favorite. Jack Hemingway gave it to me. He said it was the prettiest sounding reel he had ever own, and he had owned hundreds over a long lifetime of fishing.

  • Scientific Anglers System 5 reel made by Hardy in England. I have fished this reel hard since the early 70’s (almost 50 years). just got it back from Archuleta’s Reel Works. Bill did a great job removing end play and repairing a dent in my extra spool
