Friday Fishing Report HH Fly Shop in Craig Montana

Trisha from Portland fishing with Steve Johnson last week here on the Mo.

Flows currently stable under 13K. Inflows at Toston have been staying quite high and currently approx. 13K. Lake is full, or very close. Thursday am it was 99% full. The water will push through until it is all gone. The lake is full, so therefore any water uphill from here, will push though our system. Maybe a couple weeks?

Fishing is good. Water is high. Nymphers are deep. Use the split shot to go deep man. Using PMD nymphs along with sow and scuds, and worms of course. High water likes worms, bigger flies, and split shot.

Tougher rowing out there. Deeper anchor purchase. Be care full dropping in faster water. Find the slower stuff and park there. near, or on shore, is a good safe idea, on the soft side.

Our favorite month. At least this author. Quite busy too. PMD’s, Caddis, ants. For the dry fly gang.

No wade fishing, or almost impossible wade fishing currently. 8k is different. 6K will make it wadeable. Until then, float in a boat.

Strippers are fishing deep too. Overcast helps that cause. Rain? Rain too. Keep mixing it up with depth and color changes.

HH is your information source in Craig Montana. Open daily 630am. Shuttles, guides, lodging, the kind local knowledge, and fun at Headhunters of Craig.
